A Rave video for good, a call to declare a climate change emergency in NZ
On Thursday 16 May, a week after the UN announced that a million species will be extinct within our life times, father of 6 Ollie Langridge decided he'd had enough. He walked away from his desk and headed straight to Bunnings Warehouse, where he bought some wood and some paint. He made a placard which said 'Declare Climate Change an Emergency NOW' and he headed down to Parliament, where he has been ever since. Ollie says he'll be there until Climate Change is declared an emergency in New Zealand, because he feels he can't look at his kids in the eye and say he didn't try to do something about the desperate state of the planet they are inheriting.
About the UN Report
The Report finds that around 1 million animal and plant species are now threatened with extinction, many within decades, more than ever before in human history.
The Report also states that its not too late to turn the tide but only through 'transformative change', which is explained below:
"By transformative change, we mean a fundamental, system-wide reorganization across technological, economic and social factors, including paradigms, goals and values.”
If NZ, like other countries such as the UK, declares climate change an emergency, we must then look for our role in the solution.. immediately. To stop talking about it and take urgent action.
Raving on Video
We sent our intrepid Rave videographer, Luke, down to capture Ollie's story on video. Please watch it and do what you can to support Ollie in his mission.
One lunch time to save the planet
If you can go down to Parliament in your lunch time and support him for 30 mins, that would be awesome. There are 10,000 people in the surrounding area of parliament during the day. Imagine if all of them went and stood with Ollie for half an hour at the same time!
Ollie's still there, doing his bit. Some may think it foolish or hopeless to do what he's doing. We think it's brave and worth raving about.
Rave on Ollie! And yes... let's see climate change declared an emergency in NZ.
